Start an Aqua Business

Thinking of starting a shrimp farm or hatchery? Understand the work, check the site and plan your money before you invest. No sign-in needed.

1. Choose what you want to plan

Changing between farm and hatchery clears the estimate. Copy or print a completed estimate first if you need it.

2. Build an estimate with your own quotes

All amounts are in Indian rupees (₹). Use one farm crop or one hatchery batch. Enter 0 only where a cost truly does not apply. Update every assumption with a local technician and supplier.

Step 1 / 3 · Production

Production & selling assumptions

Use the water area used for this crop, not roads, buildings or the whole land parcel.

PL means postlarvae: young shrimp. Ask a qualified technician to check the stocking plan; this tool does not recommend a safe density.

An assumption, not a prediction. Review a lower-survival case before investing.

FCR is feed conversion ratio: kg of feed for each kg of shrimp harvested in this estimate.

Enter the quote for 1,000 PL, not the price for a single PL.

Your illustrative estimate

Your estimate will appear here after you calculate. No fixed investment or profit is assumed.

General planning information only, not financial, legal, engineering or veterinary advice. Costs, survival, prices and requirements vary by site and time. Verify all assumptions locally before investing. AI-assisted content; independent professional and native-language review is pending.

3. Check readiness before you pay

Tick items as you discuss them with your local team. This is a discussion checklist, not an approval or a technical inspection. Ticks reset on reload.

Not ready to build? Consider these first

Learn at an operating unit

Training and supervised work help you understand daily costs and failure risks before owning a production unit. Ask MPEDA or ICAR-CIBA about current training opportunities.

Compare leasing with new construction

An existing unit may reduce construction work, but inspect repairs, lease rights, debts, water access and valid permissions. It is not automatically cheaper or legally ready.

Explore support work

Record keeping, logistics or other support work may help you learn the market. Check the skills, contracts and permissions required for the exact activity; do not offer diagnosis or treatment without competence.

Questions new owners ask

How much money do I need?

There is no reliable single amount for every site. Get local quotes, enter your crop or batch assumptions, and review setup, operating cash and a failure reserve with a qualified adviser.

Is this a guaranteed profit or a bank project report?

No. This is an educational estimate. Obtain a site-specific feasibility study and a detailed project report (DPR) if your bank or authority requires one. It does not assess debt affordability or annual profit.

Can I get a loan or subsidy?

Ask the District Fisheries Office and your bank about current schemes and eligibility. Do not spend on the assumption that a loan, insurance claim or subsidy will be approved.

Can a beginner start a hatchery alone?

A hatchery needs specialised design, an experienced team, reliable utilities, health testing and strict biosecurity. Get training and an independent feasibility review before committing funds.

What can AquaGrow help with?
